All registration must provide evidence of the following information at the registration appointment:

Birth Certificate-(Official Copy only), Passport or Military ID

Immunization Records-DPT-5 doses, OPV-4 doses, Hepatitis B-3 doses Lead Screening, Varicella, Entrance Physical

Parent/Guardian Photo ID

Proof of Residency-Students must reside in Portsmouth with parent/guardian A true copy of two of the following (current) will be accepted as proof of residency:

Portsmouth Property Tax Bill or
-
Government Housing Letter or
-
Copy of Lease/copy of Rental Agreement verified by Town Hall or
-
Notarized Letter attached to Property Tax Bill from Portsmouth Resident verifying residency of occupant AND
-
Current Utility Bill (Phone, Electric or Gas)

Please bring a copy of your child's latest report card/transcript to assist in class placement and providing the best possible school experience as your child enters the Portsmouth School Department community.

POLICY INFORMATION and RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT
In accordance with School Committee Policy 5116, the following requirements are observed:
1.1 Only children who reside in Portsmouth, residency being as defined by the Rhode Island General Laws, Section 16-64-1, and who are legally under the control of the adults with whom they reside shall be allowed to attend the Portsmouth Public Schools.
1.2 Parents of non-resident children may request in writing from the Superintendent of Schools permission for a child or children to attend the Portsmouth Public Schools at a tuition rate established annually by the School Committee.

Student Registration-2013/2014 School Year
Throughout the school year, registrations are accepted at the Administration Building for grades K-12. Enrollment into the specific school is conducted after the registration process. You must download (below) or pick up a registration packet from the Administration Bldg. located at 29 Middle Road Portsmouth, RI and make an appointment to register your child. Appointments will be scheduled Monday through Friday 9:00 am-2:00 pm. All requirements and forms must be completed prior to appointment. Should your child have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), please present that at the time of registration. The school will notify the Regional Special Education Office for follow-up concerning the child's placement. Please contact Pat Massarotti at 683-1039 at ext.0 for information. |

Each Spring registration for Kindergarten is held. All children who will be five years old by September 1st are eligible for Kindergarten. 16-2-28. Eligibility for attendance - First Grade. - Every child who has completed or will have completed six (6) years of life on or before September 1 of any school year shall be eligible to attend first grade . Every child shall be eligible to attend first grade only upon completion of a state recognized or accredited kindergarten program. |
